What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a safe and relaxing holistic treatment. This therapy uses a specialised massage technique most commonly applied to the feet. It is considered an ancient ‘well-being’ practice and was first depicted as a healing tradition on the walls of Egyptian tombs. Reflexologists believe that specific ‘reflex’ areas on the feet correspond to specific organs and systems within the body. They use the feet as a 'map' to navigate these ‘reflex’ points and find it serves as a mirror for the overall health of the individual.
Some of the world’s oldest civilizations used techniques very similar to the basic principles of reflexology. Ancient Chinese texts where first to identify energy pathways known as ‘meridians’ that connect internal organs with other parts of the body. Should one of these ‘energy lines’ became blocked a pain or illness is likely to follow. This therapeutic touch stimulates any reflexes that are ‘out of balance’ and encourages energy to flow more freely throughout the body.
Reflexology is a subtle yet powerful therapy initiating deep healing processes at a cellular level. It helps to boost blood circulation, effectively release toxins, and invigorate immune function. During a reflexology treatment the parasympathetic nervous system becomes activated. This gives the client an opportunity to take a 'pause' from the stresses of everyday life, providing a 'space' in time for both body and mind to relax, repair and rejuvenate.
