Post Partum.

Different cultures around the world still honour the new mother with beautiful age-old traditions. The mother is often cared for by her immediate family, encouraged to rest completely and take time to bond with her baby. In the UK, we lack a cultural tradition that supports postpartum women through this rite of passage

Many of us have heard of the ‘fourth trimester’, but not nearly enough emphasis is placed upon the importance of this ‘sacred window’ of time. I believe this period can be a precious opportunity for transformation. How a mother cares for herself in the postpartum period sets the tone for her health and energy for decades to come.

Whatever type of birth you have, reflexology during the first three months is safe and allows deep-rooted healing to take place. It is perfect for nurturing the new mother as she recovers, stimulating the body’s own natural healing processes, recalibrating the body and mind to face the new challenges of Motherhood.

What to Expect:

Each session focuses on ‘lifting the spirits’ and supporting your physical recovery. This therapy creates a safe and special space for a new mother to relax. Reflexology helps to support the endocrine system, encouraging a healthy milk supply if the mother is breastfeeding by boosting prolactin production. It can also help to improve quality of sleep, if and when that chance arises in those early months!

To take the time away from your newborn in these early weeks and months often doesn’t feel right or isn’t possible, so your baby is more than welcome to join you. It can be a wonderful way to bond with the newest little person in your life, celebrating your connection and enjoying the peace of mind that reflexology brings.

It is best to have your first postpartum reflexology session in the first month following your delivery and really it can’t happen soon enough. The sessions are wonderfully nourishing - helping to build reserves of energy and restore vitality as your baby grows. The treatment is suitable for all women caring for new babies and young children. Postpartum mothers are the unsung heroes of the world!
